Yuemei Pan Charged
In a 30-second video that went viral, Yuemei Pan was seen jostling the 13-year-old girl at a grocery store in Clark’s Town, Trelawny, and slapping her in the face while accusing her of stealing. The video sparked outrage, and Pan was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in December. However, the case was dropped in January when no evidence was offered in court.
According to Toronto Life, Hann Pan immigrated to Canada with his wife Bich Ha in 1979 and worked as a mechanic and carpenter. He instilled high academic standards in his daughter Jennifer and pushed her to excel in extracurricular activities, such as piano and figure skating. The publication reports that he also kept strict rules on dating and prevented her from attending school dances or parties. Jennifer later lied to her parents about dating Wong, one of the men accused of killing her mother and attempting to murder her father in 2010. After the incident, she requested a non-communication order and was placed in a medically induced coma.
Jennifer was convicted of orchestrating the home invasion that killed her mother and injured her father, who survived after being tied to a banister. She was sentenced to a life term in prison and received no possibility of parole for 25 years. The incident became the subject of a Netflix documentary series, “What Jennifer Did,” and has since led to a number of wrongful convictions for Pan’s co-accused, including Danny Wong and Lenford Crawford.

Investigators have also been conducting an inquiry into a separate real estate project involving Huang. An account book with payment figures for 18 councilors in relation to the Yuemei project was discovered by Prosecutors’ Office investigators, and they are certain that the payments are related to the approval of the two projects.
